Testing the (Red) Waters

I just saw this over at Eyeteeth — a Futurist group dyed the water of the Trevi Fountain red to protest the amount of money spent on the Rome Film Festival. The red is supposed to represent the red carpet. According to leaflets left around the fountain, the group, FTM Futurist Action 2007, wants to fight against “everything and everyone with a spirit of healthy violence” and to turn this “grey bourgeois society into a triumph of color.”

Last month in the States, Showtime staged a publicity stunt at 14 fountains around the U.S. — including one in the District — dying the water red to draw attention to its show "Dexter," about a blood-splatter expert who is also a thrill killer.
I find it interesting that the same thing can be a radical act in Italy, done in protest, and be just an annoying publicity stunt in the U.S.
