Next Week's Events

There are some fabulous events coming up next week in the District, and provided I'm not drowning in work from my first full week of classes, I'll be attending all of them.

Wednesday, September 12
District Sample Sale

I covered this in an earlier post, but I'm going to be attending at the Bloggers' Corner. And running there frantically after my Poetry & Media seminar.

When: 7-9 p.m.
Where: 3307 M St., NW

Thursday, September 13
Vintage Clothing/Used Book Cocktail Party

Listopad Vintage and Red Onion Records and Books are teaming up for a vintage clothing party. Since books and clothes are two of my favorite things, the combination — since it also includes food and wine — sounds too good to be true.

When: 6-9 p.m.
Where: Red Onion Records and Books
1901 18th St., NW

Friday, September 14
African Art Museum Event

I haven't been to the National Museum of African Art before, so this might be the time to do it. The young membership group at the museum is hosting an event in the vein of Hirshhorn After Hours — tours, music, food, and liquor — but here it's free. There's a two-drink limit, which is probably wise on the part of the museum. You have to RSVP by Friday, September 7 to africanartevents@si.edu.

When: 7-11 p.m.
Where: 950 Independence Ave., SW

Saturday, September 15
Phillips Symposium

The Phillips Collection has great events and lectures, including Artful Evenings on Thursdays. Today they're holding a Symposium: Issues of Content – Contemporary and Modern Art Museums Today, featuring the directors of four American art museums. The symposium plans to examine museums' choice of art and public role.
When: 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Where: 1600 21st St., NW

Arts on Foot

Arts on Foot is a one-day festival that celebrates the art, food and culture of the Penn Quarter area. An outdoor market at 8th and F Sts. features the work of 100 artists, food samples, and wine tasting. Galleries and theaters hold special events. For a complete schedule: artsonfoot.org.

When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: Penn Quarter and various venues around the city
