The Washington Friends of Walt Whitman are holding a morning meditation and hike to Civil War Fort DeRussey in celebration of Walt Whitman’s 190th birthday on May 31.The meditation, at Joaquin Miller Cabin near Military Road and 16th Street park entrance is from 9-9:45 a.m., will follow the exact instructions and practice that Whitman followed.
The hike is from 10-11 a.m. and will take about 20 minutes along a trail. At the fort, the group will explore the area and read excerpts from Whitman’s Civil War inspired poetry.
