Multiverse @ the National Gallery

I went to the National Gallery on Sunday, and while I was there, I finally saw the completed Multiverse, a piece by Leo Villareal. Multiverse was commissioned by the Gallery and is located in the walkway between the East and West buildings. It wraps around the walkway and consists of 41,000 computer-programmed LED nodes. It will be on display for the next year.

The piece is beautiful — the lights glitter, and the slow moving conveyor belt gives you time to see various patterns emerge.

I interviewed Villareal earlier this year, so if you want some background, go read it here.
