Crouching Spider, Hidden Dragon

Louise Bourgeois' Crouching Spider (2003)

I'm way excited about the Louise Bourgeois retrospective opening at the Hirshhorn on February 26. But you don't have to wait till then to see the French sculptor's work — the museum is already getting in the Bourgeois spirit with the installation of Crouching Spider, which is hanging out by the entrance to the building. Bourgeois, who is nearly 97, calls her spiders a "defense against evil."
