Grapes with the Apes

I can think of no better way to celebrate the day I turn in my thesis than to go to Grapes with the Apes at the National Zoo on April 10 (well I can, but this does sound really fun). There's going to be wine, of course, along with samples from area restaurants, and jazz.

I haven't been to the National Zoo in two years, when I went with my parents, and I was convinced that one of the giant pandas was dead. I also intend to use this event to have a good deal of wine and beg the zookeepers to get a baby polar bear so we can keep up with the rest of the world.

You're not the only one who has feared for a panda's life. When I was there in January, I heard a kid tell another, "That's the dead panda." Everyone thought he was calling it the DAD panda and correcting him about its gender. He never stopped insisting that it was the dead one.

I think that was probably the same kid that was there when Amy was 2 years ago, the one that was tramautized by Amy's constant references to the "dead" panda!
