Because I never miss an opportunity to plug my alma mater:
Two of my former professors will be doing November readings at Politics and Prose.
Joseph Ellis — Nov. 14, 7 p.m.
Ellis will be speaking about his new book, American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies at the Founding of the Republic. The book is about the problems faced by the new nation, namely slavery and displaced Native Americans. My history major was essentially in Joe Ellis, so I need to get out of class early to go see him.
Brad Leithauser — Nov. 24, 1 p.m.
Leithauser collaborated with his artist brother to make Toad to a Nightingale, a collection of light verse and illustrations. Leithauser taught my "Modern European Fiction" class, which while not spectacular, was a great introduction to works I would normally have never picked up.
