Here's a nice article from The Smart Set, one of my favorite web sites. It's about the Venice of tourists and the Venice that we all wish it were — still inhabited by locals and with the same feel of other European cities. Venice isn't my favorite city in Italy, (that honor belongs to Florence), but I've spent several of my happiest days in the past few years there. The article reminds me of one of my life's dreams, which is to reside in Italy and spend my days working at cafes and taking lunch breaks at the Uffizi.
